HISTORY OF TICA

With the origins of TICA dating back to 1992 it developed quickly from a dream to reality. The first idea and design was by a former Australian based real estate agent who commenced a property management career in the 1970’s. He identified the need to create a service that would enable those within the industry to have their own database of defaulting tenants, when the Australian Government changed the law preventing agents from using credit information in the processing of tenant applicants.

TICA initially received a lot of criticism from industry sceptics, claiming it wouldn’t work and may only last six months. We are now the largest tenant database in the southern hemisphere and currently in our tenth year and growing internationally. We are pleased to prove to those sceptics just how wrong they were.

Since its launch, TICA has established itself as a valuable tool supporting property managers throughout the whole of Australia and New Zealand and now the United Kingdom processing in excess of 65,000 tenant enquiries each month, thus increasing the tenant enquiry database.

TICA UK has recently established the first database register of GOOD TENANTS whereby members can provide recognition to those tenants who abide by the terms of their tenancy and look after the properties they occupy. TICA’s aim is to create a positive and recognisable reference standard for existing tenants within the residential lettings industry here in the United Kingdom.
